Macabea in Wonderland: Linguistic Adventures in Clarice Lispector's A Hora da Estrela

By Claire Williams

Abstract

This essay uses Lewis Carroll's classic children's books as a looking-glass that reflects the problems of logic and language encountered by Macabéa in Clarice Lispector's novel A Hora da Estrela. The protagonists have more in common than might be expected, especially when interacting with the strange world around them.
